Rabies and Your Dog
The main reason we get pets because they are able to give us great companionship. They are able to do lots of things that can help us do certain tasks. Hence the old adage “A dog is a man’s best friend.”

However there are certain situations that we must ensure to achieve these things first. We must learn to train the dog first too. It will be quite a challenging time to train the dog, but once the training stage has been achieved both your relationship will become better.

One matter that should be given more concern is the condition of rabies on your dog. This is a fatal, viral disease that affects your dog’s brain and nerves. When your dog suffers from rabies it will become a threat to you and your society. Instead of having a best friend you’ll be having a best fiend. This situation will also give you pity towards your dog.

That is why more and more people are getting killed by dog bites. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention there are 10-20 tragic cases per year due to dog bites. That is why rabies should be taken more seriously.

Your dog will usually acquire rabies from another wild animal such as skunks, bats, raccoons, foxes or even coyotes. Try to prevent your dog from being too near from those animals for preventive measures only. These wild animals will bite your dog and the disease will then be transmitted. Another way for the disease to be transmitted is through the contact through broken skin.

You will know that your dog has become infected of rabies through very obvious signs. Instead of having a very friendly dog that will cuddle you when you arrive; you’ll be expecting a bite when you arrive. In short, the once sweet dog ahs become rapid without any reason.

You should also beware of wild animals. They will act tame for a while and will not be afraid to be approached by people. Once the rabid animal has exhibited abnormal behavioral signs it will continue to do so. Usually, it takes two to six months before the signs or rabies become very much present. Rabies is a very much irreversible process. Once your dog starts to show signs more the dog will die in a matter of days.

Currently, rabies still has no treatment. To be fair though, not all animals that come in contact with an animal that has rabies, including humans, do get infected.

When you think that your dog has rabies try not to have contact with it. Isolate the dog and contact your veterinarian. It may be a harsh situation but it’s better that you get protected rather than getting afflicted.
